The taste of burnt rubber was on my mouth. The last time I opened my eyes it was daylight, now able to wince a bit I notice its dark, shit what happened?
The wind nestles my face, its a cool summer morning. I wake. The pain rushes to my body when I begin to move. I look at my right hand, its bloodied and scraped very deep. It burns like a motherfucker.
"Fuck.....sssgoing on?"
Trying to figure out which part of my body is not burning, I begin to drag myself to the red railing on the side of the bridge. Where was my sister? How long have I been out? I begin to nervously rub out some of the dirt imbedded under my skin from the road rash. It burns too much I just let it go for now. I spend the next few minutes just staring at the ground trying to formulate what the hell had happened. It all rushes back to me.
"So what are we doing tonight?" I say with a yawn on my breath.
Maria replys, "Well Pauly said were gonna hit up some bar by the lake, should be a good time. Can you turn up the heat its fucking freezing in this car."
I quickly answer, "Yea, I just dont want it too hot in here Ill fucking pass out."
Maria points, "Look its the red bridge! Pauly calls it the "almost home" bridge...fucking hillbilly."
She laughs at her own joke.
I look closer and make a confused look, "Is that a fucking person walking in the middle of the bridge?"
The car about 15 seconds in front of us swirves out of the way of this person, looses control and slams into the railing of the bridge. I hit the brakes and my front left tire hits a fresh pothole that might has well have been a landmine. I lose control, everything is a blur.
Maria screams something that only certain animals could hear. Lights out.
Im reminded of the pain and start to get a hold of myself.
I look around to find the car, and there it is just right off the side of the bridge planted into a tree.
"Maria! Maria!" I scream partly because of the pain and partly because of the worry.
I run to the car.
